In 1914, British aristocrat Lord Carnarvon received the concession to excavate in the Valley of the Kings, building on earlier excavations near Thebes. His financial support enabled the groundbreaking work led by archaeologist Howard Carter. In 1922, their efforts culminated in the discovery of the tomb of the young Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The excavation was meticulously documented by photographer Harry Burton, whose original photographs captured both the intricate process of the dig and the treasures uncovered within the tomb. Using these historic images as our guide, our team is recreating the layout, textures, and atmosphere of Tutankhamun’s tomb.
Every wall painting, treasure, artifact, and architectural detail is rendered with the highest precision, ensuring historical accuracy and visual authenticity. This project enables us to not only preserve but also share an exact digital twin of the tomb with scholars, history enthusiasts, and the public worldwide. We are preparing for an upcoming immersive dome film that will transport audiences back to the moment of Tutankhamun’s tomb discovery. Allowing viewers to feel as if they are stepping into the tomb themselves.
The film will be mastered at an extraordinary 24K video resolution, ensuring compatibility with the newest generation of ultra-high-resolution LED domes currently being built worldwide. This level of detail and clarity will provide a truly immersive experience, placing audiences right alongside the original excavation team as they unveil the treasures of Ancient Egypt.

In addition to our dome film, Mirage3D is developing a fully immersive real-time VR app that allows users to step directly into the Tomb of Tutankhamun using VR headsets like the Meta Quest 2 and 3. This interactive experience offers a first-person journey through the tomb, enabling users to explore each chamber, corridor, and intricate wall painting in hyper-realistic detail.
With intuitive controls, users can move at their own pace, immersing themselves in the tomb’s rich artwork, artifacts, and architecture. They can even pick up treasures, rotating them to observe every angle and uncover the hidden details that showcase the art and craftsmanship of Ancient Egypt. In a thrilling, hands-on moment, users will even be able to wield a virtual hammer and chisel to break through the sealed wall of the burial chamber, revealing the breathtaking golden shrines beyond.
